Food // Bills, Liverpool ONE Review

When it comes to going out for lunch there are a few different hotspots that top my list every time… Castle Street if we’re in the mood for a sophisticated yet boozy lunch with cocktails, Bold Street for independents and L1 for tried-and-tested faves. On this particular day, Bills was our location of choice.

With a varied lunch menu, choice of soft and alcoholic drinks and after-meal desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth, it’s the place to head to tbh.

I love the decor at Bills. Whilst it may be a chain restaurant, they’ve nailed the cosy decor and it feels super inviting and a place you want to relax and enjoy great food. On this particular Saturday I was lunching’ with my Mum so the menu had to hold lots of variety to suit both of our palettes.

Prices are fair and the width of the restaurant was bustling with tables of shoppers grabbing a bite to eat, families and friends catching up.

As always, we begin assessing the menu by selecting our starters and a sharing appetiser to share –

  • Flatbread, hummus and olives to share – £4.25
  • Baked Crab Cakes for me – £6.95
  • Oak Smoked Chicken Liver Parfait for Mum – £6.25

The portion sizes were just right for lunch and we happily tucked in. I have it on good authority the pate was delicious and the pate to toast ratio was spot on – something that can be hit and miss, leaving you with lots of pate leftover but no bread to enjoy with/.

My crab cakes were delicious. So light, moreish and very tender. A dish I would definitely order again!

Main Courses

Next up, after a glass of wine and a breather, our main courses arrived… The smells from each dish were very tempting and once the obligatory photo round had taken place Mum had the green light to tuck in!

Thai Green Chicken Curry was Mum’s choice – £13.25. The coconut rice complimented the sweet, spicy taste of the curry, whilst the large chunks of tender chicken and veggies made it a welcome choice. It was slightly more spicy than she was used to, but none the less, an enjoyable lunch option.

I’ve been back on Slimming World recently, so decided to play safe with the Mojo Marinated Chicken Skewers £11.25. Whilst I was tempted by the Macaroni Cheese and the selection of burgers on the menu, it was the tzatziki that won me over. The salad was the fresh and crisp salad with what I think was couscous.

Dessert to share?

While I decided to be good, Mum was in the mood for indulging her sweet tooth with a dessert. The one that won her over? The Banana and Honeycomb Cheesecake with Vanilla Ice Cream.

I may have had a bite or two….and it was so good! Not too banana-flavoured and as a non-honeycomb lover, I wasn’t put off. We only needed one between two as we struggled to finish it!

*We were invited to Bills for a complimentary lunch in exchange for this truthfully, honest review. Thank you to the Bills team for a great start to our afternoon!
