Blogmas // Bistrot Pierre, Southport Review

A couple of weeks ago I received an email, sharing the news of a new restaurant opening in Southport, on Lord Street. I’m not sure if you know but I’m originally from Wigan and currently live in Ormskirk, so Southport is somewhere that I visited regularly as a child and it’s somewhere me and boyfriend go in the summer for ice cream and chips. But to try a new opening in the sleepy seaside town was a different way to spend our Sunday.

Bistrot Pierre specialise in great value French cooking and we can confirm, that they’ve succeeded. Located mid-way along the high street, the two-floor restaurant certainly stands out and it’s homely interiors and inviting menu had us eager to give it a whirl. We arrived on a Sunday lunch-time and with rumbling bellies, three courses were calling our name! Spoiler alert; the food was goooood!

We took our seats on the second floor, in a spacious window spot and with the help of recommendations from the waiter, we navigated our way through the wine menu. We’re fans of red wine (read, we bloody love it!) and the Pinot Noir was said to be a deep, fruity red. We ordered a half carafe and it was lovely. Very moreish and if we’d visited in the evening, a second bottle would have promptly been ordered!

The restaurant has a variety of lunchtime offers which we can’t wait to come back and take advantage of!

  • One course £9.95
  • Two courses £11.95
  • Three courses £13.95

The restaurant provides fresh baguettes and butter on the table as a complimentary service and we chose to try the mini chorizo soaked in honey as part of the appetizer menu. They were delicious and a great accompaniment to begin our meal.

I opted for the truffle ravioli to start, whilst my partner went for the pate. Both were delicious and packed with flavour, whilst being the perfect size for a starter and not too filling. A very descriptive way of explaining our first course I know, but we were really blown away by the food. We have a habit between us of rating who’s ‘won’ each round with the better choice and I’m pleased to say I won this round!

When it came to ordering mains, we both went down the same route. Generally, for review purposes, I like to choose two different meals, but with steak on the menu, it was the winner for us both! I opted for a traditional French dish of steak frites whilst my other half went with the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce.

Both were cooked perfectly, his medium rare and mine, medium well. Flavoured well, cooked exactly as we like and good portions for a lunchtime treat. We agreed that both cuts of meat complimented the wine perfectly, too.

And, did we have room for dessert I hear you ask? Well, it’s rude not too so we decided to share the chocolate crepe with vanilla ice cream. And, again, it was another course we were really impressed with. The vanilla ice cream has speckles of vanilla pods, tasting absolutely delicious.

I don’t want you to think I have hyped up every course, as our meal was complimentary in return for a review, but it was truly delcious. We’ve already told our parents about it and with the lunchtime offer available, it’s a no-brainer as to why we wouldn’t come back! If you’re ever in the area, pop in and try it for yourself…I dare you!

*Our cost of our meal was gifted us to in exchange for this truly, honest review. Thank you!
