Beauty // Foundation & Skincare Favourites

Every few months I find myself coming back to skincare posts and talking about what’s working for me. I’d say I have troublesome skin. When I was a teenager it was typical teen skin – breakouts, oily and hormonal! However, I’m now in my late 20s and I’m still trying to battle the same problems I had 10 years ago!

When it comes to foundation and micellar water, I feel like I’ve tried them all. These two products are my holy grail and they need each other time do their job!

I have certain high-end brands that I’m loyal to in both respects – I love Estee Lauder Double Wear and Bioderma respectively, but (like always!) I’m trying to spend less so shopping high street.

I’ll admit I actually avoided Bourjois foundations for a long time as I didn’t think it was right for me or my skin, but a couple of months ago I picked up a bottle of Healthy Mix on a whim and it completely changed my opinion. I went for the lightest shade, Vanilla as I wanted to lighten up my base and move away from orange-toned foundations. Let’s face it…it’s never a good look on really pale skin! I really like the consistency of this foundation and the coverage it offers as I still feel like I kind of have my face intact at the end of a 12 hour day. Plus, it isn’t cakey, which is just a dream. I think I’ve been converted!

Next up, I want to talk about the Superdrug own brand Optimum range micellar water. This particular product uses anti-hydration birch water and I’ve been using it for around 6 weeks now and I have half the bottle left. Firstly, it smells amazing. Like, literally so good! It’s very sensitive so it doesn’t irritate when I’m taking off mascara or eyeshadow and gets rid of stubborn lipsticks too, which is the true sign of a good makeup cleanser. I tend to double cleanse using this product, but you wouldn’t have to as it does the job in one go. I’m definitely going to be re-purchasing this!

And lastly, let’s talk serums. Again, another Superdrug own brand product; this Simply Pure hydrating serum is nice and light. I’m not sure at what point you’re supposed to use this but I’ve been using it as a primer. I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks and I think it’s softened my skin and it’s the perfect layer to wear before I put on my foundation. I’ve also used it at nighttime (when I can remember) after a bath when my face is fresh and clean. I’m not sure how much it retails for, but I’ll defo purchase this again!
