I swear since the arrival of September last week, the weather has also decided to take a turn for the worse. A week ago today my outfit to work consisted of THAT boucle blazer from Asos, skinnies and a sandals. Now fast-forward a week and its pretty much baltic. I’ve packed away my sandals (well till my holiday to Rome in 14 days!) and my boots have made a comeback. However, this does mean a season of layering fast approaches, and the need for a new frost-fighting coat becomes all the more essential, I decided it’s time to embrace autumn and create my top five winter wish-list of warming coats for all occasions.
Following a summer of Royal babies and British celebrations (tennis anyone?), I thought a heritage number would see the summer out in style, and when we think heritage or classic British styling, who better than Barbour. I love love love the Union Jack International Waxed Jacket in red from the House Of Bruar collection of Barbour jackets as I’m all for a pop of colour during the dreary winter months, and it would look great layered with a chunky knit as the temperatures drop.
Let’s face it, we all know the winter will bring more rain than shine and there is nothing better to help us stay dry than the classic rain mac. Little White Lies have brought out a very cute, high-shine patent number that will be sure to keep the damp at bay. Try teaming with skinny jeans and wellies for optimum dryness.
Looking smart and staying warm is a key concern for many as 2013 draws to a close, although where the time has gone I don’t know. Classic car coats have made a big return this season and are available in a medley of colours and styles, try partnering a camel three-quarter sleeve number with leather gloves for a very chic look.
When it comes to winter after-work adventures, we can often be deterred due to the weather. However, a stylishly warm coat ensures those night-time jaunts aren’t quite so terrifying. I think a classic black number is always great for these occasions and French Connection has brought out some lovely winter coats worthy of a cocktail or two. I can defo see myself wrapping up in a classic black coat for my trip to London with the work girlies in Nov!
If this winter is as white as the last, we will all need a quality coat to keep the chill of snow and ice out, I’m talking faux-fur, shearing, padding, Ryan Gosling if he comes in fabric? Basically, anything to keep me warm. There are a lot of great styles and options from 90s style parkas to full faux-fur glamour to choose from, but making my list is a softer parka from ASOS which is certain to keep me toasty.
And If all else fails, staying in and hibernating might work…..I means X Factor and Strictly are back on our tellybox after all!!
